About K4SIP

Howdy.  So my name’s Byron.

If that’s all you came to find out, don’t bother reading below…

Otherwise…Some random tidbits about me:

    • I’m a FCC-licensed Amateur Radio Operator, Technician class.  (https://www.fccbulletin.com/callsign/?q=K4SIP)
    • I’ve had my Tech amateur license and vanity call sign K4SIP for over 9 years now.  I’ve been into Amateur radio since I was about 8 years old — just never got the ticket for it until much later in life.
    • I’ve been a web developer, telephony guy, I’ve tried making voice-overs for a few people here and there, I’ve been a radio station production guy, a dial-up ISP support guy, a software tech support guy, a lowly Sysadmin, then a Windows admin, then a Linux admin, then I was an all-around Data Center guy, and I still dabble in RF but Network Engineering is where I ended up most recently in life, which has been almost the past 10 years of it.
    • I also tinker and I build electronic things.  That’s probably why I liked ham radio enough to finally get a license.  But these things aren’t paying the bills anymore…
    • For real work, I’m a Lead Network Engineer for a popular Fintech-based company that handles online A/R: credit, collections, payments, invoicing, order-to-cash transactions, etc.
    • Surpassing *28* years in the “IT field” as of updating this.  Since I’m a network guy, I build and maintain connectivity for both work and home.  I don’t mind as long it’s something interesting.
    • One day I will seek to get either a General or Extra class license upgrade, but I just haven’t been as motivated lately to do this.
    • You won’t really hear me rag-chewing much on the local 2m and 440 repeaters, almost ever.  I mention this because….I’m more into tinkering and the “technology side” of the amateur radio hobby, and not so much into the general conversation side of it.  I might check into an occasional net but lately that’s about it.
    • I use a Yaesu FT-8900R in the Jeep (yup – I’m a Jeeper!), an FT-7900 in the house as base.  Also have several Motorola HT750/1250 portables and CDM750/1250 mobiles for 2m, 220 and 70cm stuff.
    • One day I’ll be old and bored enough to build a “ham shack” but thankfully time, money and ….. more of that “time” thing aren’t as plentiful to allow for doing such things.

That’s it from me!
